17 years ago, on my way home from work - not even 2 blocks from my apt. in Brooklyn, I was hit by a turning car. Not seriously, thank God. The man was looking at his phone instead of the road. It was a dark, gloomy night, after a torrential rain. He apologized profusely and seemed more shaken up than me. I was taken to the ER, slightly bruised and sore but fine. A week ago on my way home AGAIN not 2 blocks from my house AGAIN, (the devil ain't got no new tricks) I was ALMOST hit by a speeding car. I was able to get outta the way and he had great brakes. Instead of apologizing to me, he started to fuss me out about where the crosswalk was. Now let me just stop and say, I'm one of them 'saved by grace ppl'...not in the 'holier than thou' group by any means. Let's just get it on record right here and now that Jesus working hard on Ms. Nina! Tired, pissed and almost just run over I turn back and laid him to rest! (I'm with the two edged sword tongue crew) I said it's going to be a crosswalk when I drag you out that car and beat yo ass! Then we'll see what's a crosswalk and what's not a crosswalk!?! You are in the wrong. Accept it and apologize. Don't sit there fussing at me and get your old ass whipped in these streets. I woke up the next day a bit sore as I was carrying a huge, heavy bag with some back pain but I WOKE UP. So, thank You Jesus and my guardian angels for covering and protecting me because Lord knows this could have been a different kinda morning and holiday for me and my family. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

It's cold. Like 30 degrees with snowflakes flying around and windy outside - cold. Everyone is sick and hacking up a lung. I've been fighting it with every trick I know but the truth is I'm feeling rundown and listless. I woke up wishing I could stay in my bed and dragged on the first thing I saw. Somehow it worked!!! I've been getting compliments all day. Two of my friends told me I was too cute not to have a boo. Sometimes when you're not even trying, you look good...even if you're not feeling good.

The holidays are rapidly approaching and although I'll be working this Thanksgiving, it is one of my favorite holidays. When I had my house, I would take time off from work to cook for my family. I'd pull out my best antique 1940 china, silverware and glassware and have my family dress up for a formal sit down dinner...the kids loved it. OK, no we weren't in tuxedos and sequins but there was no jeans and sneakers at my table. They'd invite their friends and take tons of pictures by the fireplace. By that time, I'd be too exhausted to stand but enjoyed watching them.

It's the day after the presidential election and it is apply gloomy outside. I woke up to find out that my candidate did not win. I am not particularly happy about it or where this country is headed. However, I also know better than to put my hope in people. Man will fail you every time but God has a plan. Even when we can't see the plan or understand it, God is in control and not surprised BY ANYTHING OR ANYONE. As a little girl growing up in the church we sang a hymn that said, "My hope is built on nothing less; than Jesus' blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand." This is my truth today and everyday, so as much as I wanted to stay in my bed and sulk I'm up and at it again.

You don't need a reason, only a season. 'Tis the time to dress like every day's a celebration. Work, play and random Tuesdays are suddenly a little more festive. It's Friday and most people get happy about it. For me it's just another day as I most and generally don't have weekends off per say. I'm ALWAYS working or so it seems so the days tend to blend. Enjoy your weekend for those who are off!

A year or so ago I purchased some sunglasses from an online store called Eloquii. Now, like it or lump it I'm on their mailing list. Periodically, I receive their catalogs...which truly I don't mind too much even though it's not my size. I am happy to see how far fashion has come for the larger woman. They cater to the 14 to 28 woman, check out their fab vary.
The Panamánian born stylist represents beauty, wisdom, generosity and courage. In spite of these many qualities, she remains humble and treats everyone with kindness and respect. She received her first influences of fashion from her mother, Pearl. As unique as her name, her mom is a rare gem. Well into her 70s and still killing the fashion scene in 3" heels. Ms. Nina has always enjoyed dressing up and parlayed that love of high quality garments into commerce.
